A Brief OverviewUnder the direction and supervision of a Speech/Language Pathologist, assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, direct activities with patients designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA will also serve as a receptionist and clerical support in outpatient therapy clinic settings.
What you will do
- Under the direction of a Speech Language Pathologist, provides direct patient care for speech language, voice fluency, and hearing to patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific factors and performs satisfactorily related to patient’s age infant through adult as noted on unit specific guidelines and competencies.
- Documents patient progress towards meeting established treatment objectives.
- Provides direct therapy services to patients using various functional settings and strategies.
- Plans therapy within the patient’s individual physical, emotional and intellectual capabilities.
- Communicates effectively with patient, family, physician, and other disciplinary team members regarding the patient status, progress, and needs.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.
- Participates in program development of the department.
- Performs duties of receptionist and scheduler. Greet patients and visitors and answer telephone calls promptly and courteously. Assists with cleaning and organization of therapy clinic space.
- Assists in monitoring and managing therapist and patient schedules, completed and missing documentation/therapy charges and supplies.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) - Licensing Board active in the state of practice Upon Hire
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Speech Language Pathology and Communication Disorders
